I recently started GW2 for the first time and I have to say at least get to level 25ish before you get a mount. The game has so many beautiful moments and environments. (Started as a Sylvari) Take it in, explore Lion Arch and Divinity's Reach without a mount. Get a feel for the world. Listen to the NPCs. The tone of the game is great.
Use your staff, runes of speed, and a superior sigil of speed to run around like you're on speed (because you will be) If you MUST have a mount, then to avoid POF spoilers, go into WvW and get a warclaw.
